Underscore began in the mid 1990s, inspired by the Bristol trip-hop sound of the era and heavily influenced by Portishead (Geoff Barrow and Beth Gibbons). I recruited vocalist Marie Ridgley who delivered the quivering, haunting edge similar to Beth Gibbons. After several recording sessions both in home and in professional recording studios a 3-track self-titled EP was released in small local circles (i.e. without internet nor public performance, just word of mouth and limited CD distribution).

Fast Forward to 2014 and Underscore was revisited with vocalist Gabriella Marie (aka "GemJo") who brought her own dark presence and unhinged vocal strength to the refreshed sound as well as supplied the lyrics for both "Fade so Far" and "My Arms."

What makes this online release extra special is the original tracks have all been fully remastered, some remixed and some finalized. In the process of gathering materials I stumbled across "Brainwashed," a track that I never put on the original EP and it just sat on a hard drive, completely forgotten about. This is the first time this track has been heard by anyone but myself. Meanwhile, "My Arms" had only a vocal track recorded and a few sketched out music riffs but was shelved for years and so I completed the track for this release.
